The Reach is a space for creative solopreneurs and consultants who want structure, accountability, and the company of other thoughtful people while they work.
Show up when you need momentum.
Step back when you need space.
Come back when you’re ready.

Hi Reader,
I don’t know about you, but the second things get a little quiet in my business, my brain starts trying to fill the space.
- Time to work on some case studies.
- Say ‘yes’ to every networking event.
- Maybe I should sign up for another course?
- Make a new freebie?
- Write more blog posts?
- Gotta do something. Anything.
And sure, a lot of that activity is useful. A slower season can be a good time to work on the back-of-house pieces that fall off the list when you’re busy with client work.
But lately I’ve been wondering whether I’m being strategic or just... anxious.
A few days ago, I was talking to a friend about a sales course I was considering. I explained why it might make sense, what I hoped to get out of it, and whether it was the “smart” move right now.
After going back and forth for a bit, she said:
“Maybe this is a sign you just need to take a break.”
The more I thought about it, the more I realized she was right.
Because when you’re self-employed, it can sometimes feel like there are only two options: work ON your business, or IN it.
If client work is slow, you should be networking. If you’re not networking, you should be creating content. If you’re not creating content, you should be optimizing your systems.
Every bit of space starts to feel like something to optimize.
But by the time you read this, I’ll be in Halifax for a few days, and I’m trying to let it be what it is: a dang break.
Novel concept, right?
So before you redesign your website, overhaul your marketing strategy, or convince yourself you need a whole new sales process, consider option C.
Maybe nothing is broken.
You just need to turn yourself off and on again.
’Til next time!
Big (virtual) hugs,
✨ What’s happening inside The Reach
We’ve welcomed two more Open House attendees into The Reach as members, which has been such a lovely way to close out the month.
Also, after the responses I got to last week’s Art Girl Summer newsletter, I’m playing with the idea of a low-key art-in-the-park kind of meetup for GTA folks.
If you’re local and would be into something like that, reply and let me know!
