Baby steps to better bookkeeping

Things are easier to face when they’re not just sitting in your head.

If your bookkeeping, inbox, or random life admin has been sitting in the “I’ll get to it” pile, The Reach gives you a place to actually get to it.

e run guided coworking sessions every week where you can show up and make real progress, without overthinking it.

Hi Reader,

I know for my American friends, your tax deadline is behind you. But for Canadian folks, it’s coming up fast (or not, if you’re self-employed and filing in June).

I’ll be a little vulnerable here. I’m not great at keeping up with my books. I tend to avoid it, then cram a year’s worth of catch-up into a couple of painful days.

Recently, we were talking about this on a coworking call, and one of the members shared that she’d struggled with the same thing, but was proud of herself for not avoiding it this year. She was literally working on her taxes during the call.

And I had a bit of an aha moment.

I’m still behind on my bookkeeping this year. But I’m not avoiding my money the way I used to.

The biggest shift has been simply setting up a recurring task in Asana to check in on my finances.

That’s it.

But the reason it’s been such a game-changer is that it keeps it visible. It sits right alongside my other work tasks, instead of floating around as this vague monthly “should” I keep putting off.

And I’ve been building from there. I now move 30% of my income to savings and 10% to investments every month, instead of trying to sort it all out later.

It’s not perfect. I’m still figuring things out.

But it’s progress.

And I think that’s the part we don’t talk about enough. Progress isn’t just “I did it” or “I didn’t.” It’s all the small shifts in between that make the bigger thing easier to face.

Sometimes it looks like finally opening the spreadsheet.
Sometimes it looks like moving money before you can spend it.
And sometimes it looks like sitting on a coworking call, doing the thing you’ve been avoiding, with other people doing it too.

’Til next time!

Big (virtual) hugs,

✨ What’s happening inside The Reach

A lot of “I’ve been avoiding this, but I’m finally doing it” energy in our coworking sessions lately, from finances to admin to random life tasks.
’m also in the middle of planning our next challenge, so that’s a bit of a work-in-progress right now. More soon.!
