Just bring yourself, a to-do list (and maybe a friend).

We’ll bring the lo-fi soundtrack and focused vibes.

Hi Reader,

We’re in the middle of a heat wave here in Toronto, and my brain feels like soup, so this letter’s short and sweet.

Last week, a new subscriber (you know who you are! 👋🏾) told me she wants to work with local, independent shops, but the thought of walking in and pitching herself cold makes her mind go blank.

Which is so fair. Cold pitching can be pretty awkward and super nerve-wracking.

But a few years ago, I took a sales coaching course (sadly, no longer running) that completely changed how I view sales.

One of my biggest takeaways? Treat sales like research, not a hard pitch.

Ask questions. Get curious (pun intended). Find out what’s already working for them and what’s not.

“What kind of marketing have you tried?”
“Where do most of your customers come from?”
“Have you ever run paid ads before?”

And if you’re visiting businesses in person, just getting their email to follow up later is a win.

That small shift from selling to learning makes things feel less high-stakes. For you and them.

Sometimes, that’s all it takes to open the door. Literally and figuratively.

‘Til next time!

Big (virtual) hugs,
