Hi Reader,

Last week, I noticed something I’ve felt before, but never put into words.

When I’m deep in client work, I reeeeally struggle to create marketing content for my own business.

Not just because I don’t have the time or energy (but big fat duh, that’s a huge part of it).

But because I start to second-guess myself more. I still have ideas I want to share. But when I sit down to write or post something, everything feels… off. I’m not sure if it’s good or just noise.

And it’s deeper than just being tired or stretched thin.

When my brain is fully in “delivery mode,” I find it harder to trust my own ideas.

I’m using all my best energy to execute and problem-solve for others, so when it comes time to market my work, I feel fuzzy. Like I’m staring through frosted glass at what I’m trying to say.

So now that I feel like I’ve finally named this specific roadblock I keep running into, here’s what I’ve been doing to move through it:

  • Jot down ideas without pressure to polish. If I have a half-baked thought, I write it down and let it be half-baked. Sometimes I come back to it. Sometimes I don’t. But capturing it counts.
  • Seek inspiration instead of forcing output. I try to scroll a little less and read a little more. I go for walks. Watch a good movie. Do something offline that fills my brain with something other than work.
  • Lower the stakes. I remind myself that every post doesn’t need to be “the one.” Sometimes “here’s what I noticed or what I’m working on” is enough.
  • Talk it out. Honestly, this mini-aha moment came up during a coworking call where I was talking through where my head’s at right now.

Now I’m curious: What helps you reconnect with your voice when your brain’s in go-mode? Hit reply and let me know.

‘Til next time!

Big (virtual) hugs,

✨ What’s happening inside The Reach

We’re hosting another public coworking session on July 31! If you’ve been curious about how we work or just need a little midweek momentum, come drop in. It’s totally free and open to all. Save your spot.
Behind the scenes: things are moving a little slower right now (summer mode = survival mode). But I did bring on a summer student who’ll be helping me create more content for The Reach. Keep an eye out for fresh posts soon!

💡What I'm loving right now

L’Oreal Thompson Payton (one of the few newsletter writers I read every week) is opening Evanston’s first Black woman-owned bookstore. Zora’s Place will be a cozy, intentional space centering Black women authors, artists, and entrepreneurs. Books, gifts, tea, community? Yes, please. Check out the fundraiser.
Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast is smart, funny, and so so comfy-cozy. I highly recommend watching the YouTube version. She edits in clips of the scenes she talks about, which makes it extra delightful.
